The oldest wooden bridge in Europe - Chapel Bridge ,Switzerland

  • Chapel Bridge Located in the town of Lucerne , Switzerland , it is the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe, this amazing bridge was built in 1333, its length 204-meter and crosses over the Reuss river.
  • Inside the bridge are a collection of 120 captioned triangular paintings from the 17th century, by local Catholic painter Hans Heinrich Wägmann illustrate scenes of Swiss and local .
  • The bridge was originally built as part of Lucerne's fortifications .It linked the old town on the right bank of the Reuss to the new town on the left bank. 
  • In 1933 Much of the bridge and artwork were destroyed by a fire, but it was promptly restored.
