The elk  is one of the largest species within deer family in the world and one of the largest land mammals eastern Asia and North America .The elk is capable of running at speeds as high as 72 km/hr (45 mph). Bull elk lose their antlers each March, but they begin to grow them back in May in preparation for the late-summer breeding season.
