  • Coober Pedy is a Town in South Australia's Outback. at first glance Coober Pedy is No water or greenery, just dust, heat But take a second  you may just change your mind. Only in Coober Pedy will you find a underground hotels, restaurants, church.
  • In the opal mining outpost of Coober Pedy, about 50% the population lives in underground dugouts to escape high temperatures in summer. Desert temperatures in the summer ordinarily exceed 104 degrees Fahrenheit and it can get so chilly in the winter.
  • Coober Pedy's  opal fields discovered in 1915 by 14-year-old Willie Hutchison, cover an area of 4,954 square kilometres and consist of 70 individual fields. Coober Pedy produces most of the world's opals.
  • Coober Pedy has evolved into one of the most unique places in Australia and perhaps the world.
